LinkedIn is where Kenyan employers, recruiters, and business leaders are active every day. Recruiters at Safaricom, KCB, Nation Media Group, Equity Bank, and international NGOs actively use LinkedIn to find candidates. Not being there means missing opportunities.
Use a clear, professional headshot with a plain background. Good natural light and a smart outfit are enough. Profiles with photos get 21x more views than those without.
Don't just put your job title. Your headline is searchable and should communicate your value. Example: "ICT Graduate | Digital Marketing | Graphic Design | NITA Certified | Open to Opportunities"
Write 3–5 paragraphs in first person covering who you are, what you do, what you're passionate about, and what you're looking for. Make it human and compelling — not a list of bullet points.
Add at least 10 relevant skills. Ask connections who can genuinely vouch for your abilities to endorse them — endorsed skills boost your profile's credibility significantly.
"Hi [Name], I'm a recent ICT graduate from SkillUp Action Africa, passionate about digital marketing in Kenya. I admire your work at [Company] and would love to connect and learn from your experience."
Share 2–3 times per week: lessons from your training or work, insights about your industry in Kenya, achievements, and articles relevant to your field with your personal commentary. Consistency over time builds visibility and positions you as a knowledgeable professional — even before you have years of experience.
